I love the smell of fresh mown grass, thunder storms, good coffee, nice wine, good company, travel, reading, the sound of the sea, intimacy and understanding, the sound of children laughing, to dance, to sing (even though I can't!) to cry at a sad film, to laugh at silly things, to love with all my heart .

We are travellers on a cosmic journey, stardust, swirling and dancing in the eddies and whirlpools of infinity. Life is eternal. We have stopped for a moment to encounter each other, to meet, to love, to share. This is a precious moment. It is a little parenthesis in eternity. (Paulo Coelho The Alchemist)
I always loved this quote, but I now feel that the challenging and strange situation we have been living in since spring of 2020 highlighted the importance of good, supportive connections more than ever for many of us.
I used to satisfy my need for regular human contact by being involved in social dancing, as well as going to cinema or theatre and eating out with my existing friends, but with none of those possible, I had to become a lot more inventive. So the last 12 months have been all about video calls with family and friends, but also a lot of mindfulness online meetups through a community I joined last April.
And the sense of belonging, non-judgement, acceptance, caring and friendship I experienced there, re-inspired me to try and find more of those type of heart-based connections in real life too. Hence me being here, reaching out to see if there might be some more kindred spirits I can connect with. Or maybe even one special person with whom to take that connection to yet another level.
I was previously married for 20 years (to someone who I thought was my soulmate and my best friend for quite a long time), so definitely not a stranger to commitment, going the distance and all the other things that are prerequisites of a loving relationship. And I also met some lovely people since my divorce 5 years ago, but sadly nobody I could see myself wanting to grow old with.
I am not looking for an instant relationship of any kind, as I don't believe anything of substance should be rushed into if it is meant to last a distance. It would however be wonderful to make some new friends for lively discussions, walks out in nature, eating out or just having a bit of banter with, as I can be a bit too much on the serious side sometimes if left to my own devices for too long.
I feel that love is like friendship on steroids and with a pinch of attraction and smattering of fun thrown into the mix for a good measure. And both love and friendship, like all other good things in life, need time and patience to grow and blossom. So I am taking my time and not looking for or expecting instant results. However, if I did connect with someone on more than a friendship level and the feeling was mutual, my intention would be to explore a possibility of a serious and committed relationship with them. So please don't contact me if you are just looking for some casual fun, as I am not the kind of person who is interested in that.
I have reached the stage of my life when I am becoming a bit like a human equivalent of a fine wine - infused with a rich bouquet of life's many ups and downs, the friendships I experienced, the places I visited, the books that inspired me, the films that moved me to tears and all the knowledge that I have devoured over the years. And just like wine, I can be a source of fun, relaxation, contemplation, enlightenment, inspiration and a myriad of other things. I know who I am and I accept myself fully, even though I am by no means perfect. But then again, nobody else is either. And in any case, perfection is overrated.
There is still so much I want to do and experience before the final curtain call, which is hopefully many many years away, and I love the idea of being able to do at least some of those things in the company of someone who makes my life feel a lot brighter and happier just by being there. I still believe that person is out there somewhere, we just need to find a way of making our paths cross somehow.
A poet called Hafez wrote: Ever since happiness heard your name, it has been running through the streets trying to find you. So I am keeping my eyes wide open to make sure I dont miss that encounter.
